The Bible is the oldest book on the planet that contains economic principles, financial principles, and family business principles. When we can identify these, they have authority, just like everything that God says in his word. Study Psalm 107 from an entrepreneurial perspective:
Psalm 107:23-24:They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters, These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
We see an entrepreneurial family. They are taking a great risk, traveling by ship through the sea, to make a profit. Often times we do not realize that when we're pushing a button on a laptop to buy a stock, and then later we push the button and sell that stock, we are taking the same risks. We take those risks and trust in God. We have to remember the fact that we're in His hand no matter what kind of business we're doing.
Psalm 107:25-27: For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.
The Lord Himself brings a storm in the life of these entrepreneurs. We see that God is sovereign, and he is the one that commanded this storm. We all have endured storms in life. We all have times when we struggle Wewith our businesses. When we're going through trouble, we think we're having more difficulty than anyone in the world has ever had. It is important for us to learn biblical principles for how to deal with struggles.
Psalm 107:28-31: Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
God allows these entrepreneurs to go through a bit of trouble. They come to a point where they feel helpless, and they begin to pray. God wants us to seek Him. He wants to help us succeed. He is sovereign, and sometimes he creates adversity so that we learn to lean on Him. Through difficult situations, we are able to see that He has us in His hand the entire time. In business this is important, because we need to know that God desires for us to be successful, so we should not quit. Instead, we should begin every business endeavor in prayer. In the end, we see that it was all for God’s glory.
From Psalm 107, we learn that there will be seasons of trouble throughout our life as an entrepreneur, but God is always going to come through on the other end, give us success, take the fear away and give us an opportunity to praise His name.
